Comment A Theory to satisfy both Science and Religion (Score 1) 204

As an observer, it seems that technology is moving in a direction that allows for the creation of ever-more powerful computer simulations. This observation lends strongly to the possibility that we ourselves are in a simulation.

Let me tell you why.

The theories of evolution and the big bang state that we are the unlikely product of a long period of iterative change. The Universe begins with a bang and is followed by a process of basic elements merging together to form more complex elements, which eventually come together to create life. Life adapts and brings us to where we are at today.

Religious theories state that some creator built the Universe and everything in it. This all-powerful architect exists in a macro-reality that is outside of our own.

With these concepts in mind, ask yourself, given infinite future time and what we know of technology today, is it conceivable that one day we may be able to initiate a persistent micro-reality that exists inside of our own reality?

If the answer is yes, then we can find ourselves in a loop that satisfies both science and religion.

Comment Big data, medicine, and understanding (Score 2) 185

Recently saw Kurzweil speak at TECHBC and have read one of his books. The advancement in life expectancy he is referring to is derived from the advancement of nanobot technologies that will allow us to better address the limitations we have today based on the natural evolution of our DNA. The idea is that as medicine becomes understood by big data, we can remove the trial and error approach that largely drives it today, with tailor made technology solutions to promote and fix our natural biological deficiencies. The pills alone will not prevent death, yet his intent is to remain as healthy as possible while medical technologies evolve to the point where we can promote and maintain long-term health. Here are a couple interesting Slashdot articles speaking to nanobot technology. https://hardware.slashdot.org/... https://science.slashdot.org/s...
