Mac OS X Secretly Cripples Non-Apple Software 559

spikedLemur writes "Vladimir Vukicevic of the Firefox team stumbled upon some questionable practices from Apple while trying to improve the performance of Firefox. Apparently, Apple is using some undocumented APIs that give Safari a significant performance advantage over other browsers. Of course, "undocumented" means that non-Apple developers have to try and reverse-engineer these interfaces to get the same level of performance. You really have to wonder what Apple is thinking, considering the kind of retaliation Microsoft has gotten for similar practices.

Windows (XP, at least) rolls around at 2099. I'm planning for the long term, and starting a company that fixes issues arising from the Y2K100 (TM) bug. Once I find a VC willing to wait for 92 years to see a profit, I'm so made.

Bomb Explodes At PayPal Headquarters 551

Pooua writes to tell us that an explosive device left outside of PayPal headquarters exploded last night. The explosion was powerful enough to knock out one of their plate glass windows but thankfully that was the only casualty of the blast. Perhaps they should have offered employee protection instead?

Launched http://nummog.net a few days ago - really hoping that it takes off in a few months, I'm starting to add content RE: my interests and hobbies. My two current open source projects are already hosted on CVS on the site and will eventually be properly integrated into the site, as one is browser-based and the other may be served from the site quite easily as a Java Webstart program.

Well, I have officially released NuMMoG on sf.net. NuMMoG is, at the moment, roughly aimed at being an MMORPG, however I may change my mind at a later date and make it into a MMOG of a different kind.

At the moment my focus is on a VERY stable server, and a moderately interesting client view.
