I also bought it when it came out. The last time I looked, a few years back, it was still working. Changed the battery once but I am sure that one also no longer holds much of a charge. What amazed me about the iPod was the great user interface, including the large tampon memory. I actually liked the fit in the hand with the mechanical clicking wheel better than the later versions that we bought for our kids with buttons and then touch screens. Also was amazed that the mechanical hard disk could take such an abuse, being thrown around all of the time. I remember reading somewhere that Steve Jobs refused the initial prototypes for being too big, and in frustration he dropped it into a fish tank in his office. Seeing bubbles coming out of it, he added that that was proof that they left wasted space inside. Don't know if it was true or not, but it does seem to fit his style.

On top of it e-bikes can come with a much brighter headlight. Mine is 50 lux. Other than being seen, it is bright enough to go fast on a dark trail. In terms of energy use, it uses very little. Even when the battery shows zero bars and stops providing assistance, it will still keep the lights shining. Fully agree though that the main problem with bicycles, push type or e-bikes, is that you are small and are going much slower than traffic, therefore there is a significant risk of being hit.

l left Northern California in 1987, and since then it seems to me that the weather has changed. Before it would start raining around mid-September. I even remember the forestry service doing control burns in October/November, after the first rains and summer heat. Since the dry season starts around May, not only are the woods one or two months drier, but the winds come from the East, to the contrary of the summer where they come off the Pacific. So rethinking the infrastructure such as burying the lines is one thing, but rethinking the climate is another. The question is where will it go from here?
