INVASION OF PRIVACY! This is ridiculous. First off the school which I am assuming is a public school has not authority force a child to do anything without the consent of the guardian of the child. Second, if this is put into effect how long before your employeer is like well Mike is five minutes late for work in the morning, I'm gonna strap a GPS on him to see where he is and when he leaves his house and where he hangs out after work. Nope simply will not fly. Second can the school ensure that the GPS data is completely protected from hackers or people looking to track the student. I think not yet. If the GPS data were to fall into the wrong hands say a person looking to do harm to children he would be able to pin point where this kid and when he would appear to be alone. This is a dangerous concept and school be removed from the school place. If the school really wants to stop cutter do the GOD DAMN OLD FASHION WAY AND YELL AT THE PARENTS.

I may not have eyes in the back of my head BUT I HAVE A CAMERA! LOL. But the fact that this was rejected by the body does not bode well for some future tech implementations, im hoping that the material was just faulty. Cause I would hate to think that if we created a bionic leg or arm that it would be rejected by the body.

Euler's Partition Function Theory Finished 117

universegeek writes "Mathematician Ken Ono, from Emory, has solved a 250-year-old problem: how to exactly and explicitly generate partition numbers. Ono and colleagues were able to finally do this by realizing that the pattern of partition numbers is fractal (PDF). This pattern allowed them to find a finite, algebraic formula, which is like striking oil in mathematics."

I would say this is a good and yet bad idea. Yes you can never make everyone happy. But completely ignoring the users will just make everyone angry and your end product a piece of garbage. Look a Geeksoft and their product gfedwrestling.com, if the techs had taken the time to interact with user and be actively involved in their product or even semi-involved then they may have been able to stop the genocide that nearly killed them and forced them to restructure the entire product to stay a float. Owners and Admins should be involved in their product cause what is the point of making it otherwise. You just have to know where to put your effort. There will always be the one guy in the crowd ready to throw a shoe at you.

The State of Ruby VMs — Ruby Renaissance 89

igrigorik writes "In the short span of just a couple of years, the Ruby VM space has evolved to more than just a handful of choices: MRI, JRuby, IronRuby, MacRuby, Rubinius, MagLev, REE and BlueRuby. Four of these VMs will hit 1.0 status in the upcoming year and will open up entirely new possibilities for the language — Mac apps via MacRuby, Ruby in the browser via Silverlight, object persistence via Smalltalk VM, and so forth. This article takes a detailed look at the past year, the progress of each project, and where the community is heading. It's an exciting time to be a Rubyist."
