Software bugs [oh Thank you, Microsoft] aside, the DishPlayer 7200 also has heat build-up problems. It can't live in a closed cabinet, it doesn't have fans, and its feet are too short so it will overheat if left powered-up 7x24 on an insulating surface [MDF - common furniture material].

It also will get into a weird mode where it will record "1 Minute" of its recorded programs of some of the programs. And as Bimble mentioned, scheduling a recording during the 0800 GMT will prevent the download of scheduling information, which is bad in and of itself.

The DishPVR 501 model is apparently built upon the "OpenPVR" software, as opposed to what appears to be the predecessor of "Ultimate TV" in the 7200.

I have experienced lock-ups, erasure and most recently Alzheimer's w/r/t the "multi-dish" [single dish, multiple LNBs] switch that hoses the box and leaves it that way until you manually check the switch settings...which puts you off the air for another five minutes while it "Loads program information from the Satellite".

All of these caveats aside, though, it's still a lot better than a stick in my eye and I do wish for the ability to rewind the radio when I miss something . . . .
