Brilliant response. But what he's saying is true. OpenAI was sued, and the judge said: There can be only one copy of the book, digital or not. Destroy the book after scanning, and it's legal. The *judge* has *forced* companies to destroy books they scan, for it to be legal.

In that judgement it was OK for them to have a digital copy of a book, a PDF, a epub, txt, whatever. But it was illegal for them to *copy* a copyrighted book, and again the judge approved work around was, destroy the original.

Interestingly that should mean it's legal for a person to do the same, in the US.

I concur. In fact I would add that the roles have flipped. Now "You're welcome" is rude especially if not preceded by a thank you. No prob or "no problem" indicates to a person that I value them and that I am at their service. It should make them feel important--that I would help in any way I can (even if it IS a large order) and they should not feel disserviced.

And open source projects. I feel like if you use open source to train then your product should also be open source (with realistic exceptions)

With AI we often overlook the reasons why what it replaced died. SO could have taken time to categorize and ADD helpful context, but instead they spent all their resources to gatekeeping and being downright malicious in handling new questions. Idk how many times I've searched for a .NET issue only to find an answer to .NET 2, with an API that uses completely different method calls. I know the people who run SO have learned nothing.
