Comment What about Foxconn? (Score 0) 86

Since pretty much every phone (and most other electronics) are manufactured in China I really don't understand the logic here. They make things for Apple, Google, Cisco, Dell, Microsoft, ad nauseum. They ARE the manufacturer so ZTE and Huawei don't even need to ask or know about it at all. I'm sure there are other companies like Foxconn too that make just about everything and slap other brand's labels on them.

I preferred the layout of Google+ as well. Responsive design and not filled with useless white space. But nobody used it so there was no point. Even though everyone I know has an Android phone and thus as a Google/G+ account they just never used G+ for anything. It has nothing to do with technical capabilities or features. If everyone doesn't move en-mass to a new platform there just simply won't be the momentum to keep it going.

I'm just surprised this was invented before they could create some kind of barrier that would prevent small children from reaching the pool. It could even have a function where part of the barrier would separate and allow people through. That function could even be operated by a mechanism that is high enough off the ground that small children couldn't reach it.

You know, like a fence... with a gate. Which is required by law around all pools in Australia. But I know, regulations are bad.... mkay?

Do you think fraud should not be a crime? I mean this case all sounds a bit stupid because Oracle's business model has always been ruthless and focused on selling consultation services after the customer pays through the nose for the licenses. Which is never nice. (I don't like Oracle personally and would never want to use their products. Because of price and because I usually just don't like the software either.) But did the Telerix's clients now have to go spend more money to get legitimate licenses for their servers? After paying a bunch of money to this terrible firm engaged in illegal practices. Oracle sucks but they may not be the only victim here.

So not only is global warming not real but it'll be super duper awesome when it happens?

Could we just lower pollution and clean up the environment because it's the right thing to do? If we happen to solve global warming (should it exist [it exists.]) then that will just be icing on the nice clean cake that won't give everyone lung cancer.

I cannot fathom the mind of someone who thinks like a Captain Planet villain.

I wasn't sure if it would actually be good enough for FPS games but when I got mine I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. There is the occasional game where I can't quite get a good mapping and I would prefer an old-school controller but it has entirely replaced the keyboard & mouse for me. From Civilization to Fallout the steam controller works great.

They're only doing their job if you have a reason to use them. If you spend your time avoiding visiting unsavoury websites and have the knowledge not to downloading/open questionable files, then they're just costing you space on your PC (or in your wallet).

Also, sometimes they break.

This completely ignores the fact that sometimes (often?) advertising networks are used to spread viruses on completely legit sites. Or those sites could be exploited themselves and start spreading malware.
Just because you only check your email and read the news doesn't make you completely safe. Safer, sure. But not completely safe.

Are young people so fucking cool and hip that calling a fucking taxi is seen as passé? Seriously?

We get it uber is cooler and easier or some other bullshit, ok fine, you prefer it but hey TAXIS STILL EXIST? WTF

THIS! So much this!

Uber and Lyft are just Taxi companies anyway. They just ignore any regulations or laws put in place. They aren't "ride-sharing" at all. This isn't Joe Blow going to the Whole Foods and checking if anybody nearby needs a ride too. These are full-time (or part-time) drivers doing this as a JOB. Calling it "ride-sharing" is disingenuous at best and probably just a way for these horrible companies to try to get around the regulations put in place to make the taxi industry SAFE FOR RIDERS AND DRIVERS.

They treat their employees like crap and do everything they can to deny them benefits and wages.

They don't care about the riders because they ignore safety regulations.

They aren't "sticking it to the man" or "disrupting the industry." They're abusing laws and regulations to make as much money as possible by being HORRIBLE COMPANIES TO THEIR CUSTOMERS AND EMPLOYEES.

I do not understand why people love these companies so much.
