In the past 10 years, I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on human programmers to create 3 web apps. Zero of them ever were finished. ZERO.

I used Grok AI to create 5 web apps. 3 of them were monetized almost immediately and have paying clients. All 5 have passed security checks that look for bugs or hack entry points.

One of the 3 monetized web apps took me all of 30 minutes using Grok, on an airplane, using my iPhone. I was able to download the files and upload them to a web server and the site was live. Literally 30 minutes and that website has created thousands of dollars of passive income.

I use vibe coding DAILY to make spreadsheets better for me and clients (I am not in IT). I use vibe coding DAILY to come up with cool functions for my web apps that people pay me to use.

I almost wonder if that's actually a dude who was on the flight or someone taking advantage of an opportunity to get in the news.

I own a tiny indie studio in Chicagoland and my peers own the some of the huge studios in Chicagoland.

Cinespace is dead right now. It has ONE show active. The other studios are so dead that they're secretly hosting bar mitzvahs and pickleball tournaments for $1500 a day just to pay property taxes.

My studio is surprisingly busy but I'm cheap and cater to non-union folks with otherwise full time jobs.

Making this a generational war isn't going to help. It deflects from the real culprits: The financial industry and the colleges themselves. The incentive for the finance biz was obvious. It's another payment stream, and they got the cherry on top of it not being discharged in bankruptcy. The incentive for colleges is that when education is financed, it now makes it possible for them to raise tuition and other expenses. When you pay out of pocket, you're cost conscious. When something is financed, you're tempted to price it according to whatever payment you think you can afford in the future. Even if you don't, other people do and that will allow prices to rise. You're a price-taker in the market. You have no choice, except to turn away or maybe go with something cheaper and perhaps less prestigious; but that's going up too because everything is financed.

So it's not inter-generational conflict. That's deflection, and before some young socialist yells "class war!" that's not it either. Everybody is greedy. Socialism is just an alternative marketing plan developed by another bunch of suits, with an aim of going straight for power and relying less on money to get there.

So what's the answer? Rooting out corruption and greed, without regard for the cynical fronts of "generational war" or "class war", or whatever "war" is being pitched to accrue power to yet another bad actor.

This is a good time to remind everyone that when government fucks with markets 40 years ago, they make it hell on everyone for the next 200 years.

Truth. One of the reasons why I keep gravitating back to defense work. Only since around 2004 or so; there's now this "government shutdown" nonsense, which is a bit of a vicious circle, because programs get fucked over, then you have to roll off the contract and find work on another. And sometimes, there isn't any. (happened to me at Lockheed), so some people have to cycle back into the private sector for a few years (which isn't a bad thing; because THAT is where you pick up new skills, to be honest). Then when some asshole "businessman" crashes the business and does layoffs (to replace you with H1B's), you're back on the street again, and you end up back in the "safe" sector: defense. Oh, and if your Clearance expires while you're in the private sector, then the contractor just pays the $10k (or whatever it is now) to re-do your investigation. This has happened to me twice now.

I used to be such a huge Google fan. My businesses spent tens of thousands a month on Google.

But now, I think I spend $19.99 a month on Google. Maybe. I need to cut that off.

I don't use gmail anymore. I haven't used google search in forever. I am using Chrome right now but need to replace it.
