I find it absolutely frightening that the citizens of the country that supposedly stands against the tyranny of organizations like the Gestapo and the Stasi not only have not overturned their government over this huge scandal, but in fact mostly agree with the surveillance program.

Americans deserve what's coming to them.

When did it stand against nazi tyrrany or tyranny in general? They were perfectly happy watching the nazis swallow up Europe until Japan came in and broke some of their toys.
All the US stands against is anyone else having any power.

Voyager went back into space but dumped all sense of ethics at the spaceport. Kirk would never have stood for it. Janeway did anything to get home, including mass genocide. Star Trek, how far can you fall

Yes, and this is why even in the first (second, if you treat the two-parter that began the series as two episodes) episode Janeway chose to destroy their currently only way back home instead of letting it fall into the local warring and cruel race that'd use it to conquer other planets and enslave their inhabitants. possibly leaving to things like mass genocide you mentioned. And all the other occasions where she refused to compromise her values and use methods of getting closer to home that'd endanger other species and civilizations, like with that other stranded ship that exploited energy-creating beings for that. All because she'd do anything to get back home and had no morals, it's so simple!

Wait.

What If They Turned Off the Internet? 511

theodp writes "It's the not-too-distant future. They've turned off the Internet. After the riots have settled down and the withdrawal symptoms have faded, how would you cope? Cracked.com asked readers to Photoshop what life would be like in an Internet-addicted society learning to cope without it. Better hope it never happens, or be prepared for dry-erase message boards, carrier pigeon-powered Twitter, block-long lines to get into adult video shops, door-to-door Rickrolling, Lolcats on Broadway, and $199.99 CDs."

Seeing as there's a factual error in the report:

'The game contains realistic, frenetic, and unrelenting violence which is inflicted upon "the Infected" who are living humans infected with a rabies-like virus that causes them to act violently. The player can choose from a variety of weapons including pistols, shotguns, machine guns, and sniper rifles. However, it is the use of the "melee" weapons such as the crowbar, axe, chainsaw and Samurai sword which inflict the most damage. These close-in attacks cause copious amounts of blood spray and splatter, decapitations and limb dismemberment as well as locational damage where contact is made to the enemy which may reveal skeletal bits and gore.'

The zombies in the game are quite obviously no longer alive, I mean, they have rotten skin, pieces falling off, not to even mention the special infected. Quite different from the rabbies zombies depicted in, for example, 28 days later.
