Comment VW is arrogant! (Score 1) 618

So I have a 2006 Jetta. VW has had several engineering issues with the car. Including a major flaw with the camshaft. I have complained to and spoken with several VW executives and they are so cocky and won't admit to anything. Basically the conversations led to "So what. Do what you want because VW will not do anything about it". They even refused to fix the speedometer being off by 5 MPH which I know affect the total driven miles. They told me "VW engineering made it so. We will not fix it." There are other issues that have resulted in lawsuits like the door and frame cables braking but VW settles and won't admit wrongdoing or engineering fault. Which by the way since my vehicle was out of warranty, it could not get fixed. I said "but there is a freaking lawsuit and settlement for it!". They said "It's out of warranty. That will cost you $360." I just walked out. My cables in the door were all broken and fixed them myself. Had the camshaft changed by a local mechanic, etc. etc. Screw VW and their culture of bigots.

Comment Language applied (Score 1) 154

Well, if language was created to pass on the methods to make tools then it also implies that some languages would be better for certain tools and so forth. Just like computer languages. With English and Spanish being the languages with the most words in the world. Are they the best universal languages for creating any kind of tools? What about the grammar? and how does it affect toolmaking? I better go back to coding...

Submission + - Over 30 Uber cars impounded in Cape Town (htxt.co.za)

An anonymous reader writes: Uber's in trouble again: 34 drivers in Cape Town, South Africa have had their cars impounded after being caught driving without a metered taxi permit. Uber says that the process of getting permits is subject to delays and drivers have been left in limbo due to a moratorium on new licences last year. Cape Town says that it's been clear all along about what Uber drivers need to operate in the city and it's making no exceptions. Uber first arrived in Cape Town in 2013.

Submission + - Little-Known Programming Languages That Actually Pay (dice.com)

Nerval's Lobster writes: There is no shortage of programming languages, from the well-known ones (Java and C++) to the outright esoteric (intended just for research or even humor). While the vast majority of people learn to program the most-popular ones, the lesser-known programming languages can also secure you a good gig in a specific industry. Which languages? Client-server programming with Opa, Salesforce's APEX language, Mathematica and MATLAB, ASN.1, and even MIT's App Inventor 2 all belong on that list, according to developer Jeff Cogswell. On the other hand, none of these languages really have broad adoption; ASN.1 and SMI, for example, are primarily used in telecommunications and network management. So is it really worth taking the time to learn a new, little-used language for anything other than the thrills?

Companies can't help but make the same mistake over and over again trying to make money quickly from inventions and fail to make last innovative creations. So we are in a cycle that enhance already made technology something that Apple is good at and perfected but never created any game changing innovation.
