Interview for Mytheon 32

Kheldon tips an interview with Petroglyph's Chuck Kroegel about an upcoming MMO called Mytheon, which will be free to play, but also involve micro-transactions. It's an action strategy game with RTS and RPG elements. He says, "The game starts in the Greco-Roman era, as well as Egypt, and as time goes on we'll expand throughout the whole world. Something everyone has in common is they all have their mythologies, these beasts and these stories that have come to us through legends and folklore. All the nations of the world, they all have their own. So in our game Mytheon, we can eventually fill the Earth in terms of being able to explore mythologies of all nations. It's an action/strategy game, with elements of RPG, and elements of RTS that people have to come to appreciate and enjoy."
Update — 4/30 at 17:30 by SS: The summary originally linked to an article stating that Petroglyph was working with Trion World Network on Mytheon. This is not the case; they are working together on a different game, which is the MMORTS previously referenced in the title.

I have to agree, reading this can be frustrating to a seasoned posix user but the truth is linux just isn't that simplified iPod solution that appeals to the vast majority of consumers. I use Ubuntu almost exclusively and thrive in a linux environment but my girlfriend doesn't want to use my computer. It's not that she isn't smart, it's that she sees it as this obtuse, obnoxious affront to the status quo. We know it's not, but that's an example of one of several perceptual barriers Linux is going to have to vault over.

Submission + - Richard Dawkins to appear on Doctor Who

Ravalox writes: In an interview with "The Independent" current curator of the Doctor Who legacy Russell T. Davis announced that distinguished evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins would be making an appearance in the new season of Doctor Who. To quote Davies: "People were falling at his feet ... We've had Kylie Minogue on that set, but it was Dawkins people were worshipping." Dawkins is the author of many best-selling non-fiction books, from The Selfish Gene and The Blind Watchmaker to The God Delusion, and a renowned advocate of both Darwin's evolutionary theory and the merits of atheism.

The $200M Gigayacht 2

If you can't figure out what to do with the extra $200M you have laying around, Monaco based Wally Yachts has the boat for you. Some of the features of your new 'gigayacht' include: A growing area with shrubbery and flower beds, watered by an irrigation system, an aft deck that holds two 45ft motor boats, two 27ft sailing boats, two cars and six jetskis. Best of all is the environmentally friendly 750,000 liter fuel tank that allows your vessel five years of cruising without having to stop for a fill-up. The price of gas goes up $1 a gallon wherever this thing goes.

Why Microsoft Won't Have Blu-ray on the Xbox 395

Ian Lamont writes "Ever since Toshiba stopped production of HD DVD players, many Xbox 360 owners have been wondering when Microsoft will offer some sort of Blu-ray option for the Xbox 360. The answer: Probably never. Microsoft's product manager for the Xbox 360 has told Reuters that Microsoft is not in talks with Sony or the Blu-ray Association. Why not? The Industry Standard points to HDi, an obscure Microsoft technology that was part of the HD DVD interactivity layer. HDi may be dead on physical media, but it could potentially be applied to other Microsoft HD-compatible technologies such as Xbox Live Arcade and Windows Media Center, and be part of a long-term play to own a big share of the market for HD content delivered over the Internet."
