Comment Automate a web control (Score 1) 228

I've been here before, 300+ mind numbing one-liners a day oncall to 500+ servers, so I wrote a website that automated the scripts into webpages that mostly rsh'ed the commands. In this day and age I'd put it into a touch-panel for 'Queenie' to peck at, and then set back and maintain, fix and add to the website, and when 'Queenie' made a mistake, I'd get chicken dinner!

During the first election of Obama there was a Fan of McCain that attempted the manulation. Spending about 1.5 million over 10 days attempting to drive up McCain shares. It failed, look at the data from the period, every time the person placed 150K dollars on McCain, the market bought it up within minutes to the net effect that he lost 1.5 million dollars before giving up.

This is fundimentaly a mindset of user interface design, 'Describe' the user interactions or 'Prescribe' the user interactions. The first makes the interaction follow the natural actions a user currently uses, either using non electronic 'objects' like turning the page on a book, to familiar user interactions for electronic devices, like tuning a radio. the latter simply creates a usre interface, and forces/precribes how the user maked thing happens. Microsoft choose to prescrive the UI expecting their market dominance would be enough. It wasn't.

This is all well and good for a science book to gain new knowledge over it lifetime, but does it contain a 'revision history'?

How about History books, or Literature. When will we see history being changed dynamically and Literature censored in real time on your electronic copies? Only a revision history would inform the reader of the change and of what was 'revised'.

"Anonymity of the participants

Their identity is not revealed, even after the completion of the final report. This prevents the authority, personality, or reputation of some participants from dominating others in the process. Arguably, it also frees participants (to some extent) from their personal biases, minimizes the "bandwagon effect" or "halo effect", allows free expression of opinions, encourages open critique, and facilitates admission of errors when revising earlier judgments."

When I worked for H&R Block on the early Rapid Refund project during the start of the IRS Electronic Tax Filing project, I was made aware of the Millions of Dollars spent Lobbying to make the Tax Forms MORE complicated, and tax law more unreadable.

So there is little hope of ever making it a simple thing to do. In fact the top 1% have no intention of educating the (99%) rest of us to the tax breaks (loopholes) that they receive.
