I recently switched back to GNOME after two years of KDE usage. It has improved drastically, currently running Ubuntu 19.04 Eoan Ermine. KDE seems to have slowed down quite a bit with Qt vs. GTK. Boot times are excellent, and it's responsive. GNOME Shell 3.34, there is a new gnome-extensions CLI that's nice to have too. I like where it's headed. Wayland is still a way away, but I like toying with it when not in work mode.
