Submission + - Marc Andreessen on Why Bitcoin Matters (nytimes.com)

Ramtek writes: Marc Andreessen writes an interesting editorial on how he how he believes bitcoin is the first practical solution to the Byzantine Generals Problem and why that is important. He also addresses many of arguments againsts its future by its critics such as its current limited use by ordinary consumers, its current volatility, its potential lack of acceptance by merchants as well as many other issues. While politically agnostic the piece is squarely in support of bitcoin but presents a more mature perspective than many current bitcoin editorials.

Submission + - A Live Map of Ongoing DDoS Attacks (vice.com)

Daniel_Stuckey writes: It's the Digital Attack Map, and it was produced in a collaborative effort by Google Ideas and Arbor Networks to raise awareness about distributed denial of service attacks. You know, those malicious digital attempts to choke, or shutdown websites by sending them volumes of traffic far too large for them to handle. The map "surfaces anonymous attack traffic data to let users explore historic trends and find reports of outages happening on a given day," as its about page explains. Created using attack data from Arbor’s "ATLAS® global threat intelligence system," this is the D.A.R.E. of DDoS—it's about the danger of having information streams cut off. Under the heading "DDoS Attacks Matter," Google and Arbor explain that "sites covering elections are brought down to influence their outcome, media sites are attacked to censor stories, and businesses are taken offline by competitors looking for a leg up."

Yes, lets pass even more laws that only sane people and non criminals would respect leaving only the insane and criminals free to ignore them. Problem solved. So well thought out.

Not sure how the 40% tax that goes into effect in 2018 on my employee's and my own "cadillac" plans count as freeloading. As for as the implications of the decision, a tax requires only a simple majority in the senate to be repealed. In addition, states can now sue over the hokey origination in the senate but deemed passed nonsense even before the election (which they will) and all this nonsense about using the commerce clause as justification for not engaging in commerce has at last been stopped. Roberts lowered the bar to repealing this thing significantly while simultaneously negating some of its supporters key election time arguments (like the supposedly conservative "Activist" court).

The same users that think the Iphone 4S supports 4G and wonder why they can't access that flash based website from their Ipad? We have few iphones. Users who want them tend to be needier since they continually relive discovering the shortcoming of being unable to multitask AND having a pathetically slow network connection. Consequently you get lots of inquiries as to why their mail now fails to arrive "in the background" like they have been used to on their monochrome blackberries in 1998. In exchange for giving up the core functionality they get plenty of cool apps which aren't business related and it comes in white!
