You're reading that wrong...that is talking about vaccines as a possible assist to people who already have long COVID (a.k.a. CFS/ME) and doesn't address the vaccines avoiding long COVID in the first place. Long COIVD risk doesn't appear to be related to the severity of the case of COVID.
The vaccines do a great job of keeping you out of the hospital and avoiding dying from COVID for those whose immune systems respond to them...but whether people avoid long COIVD from the mild cases, or asymptomatic cases they are still getting that go unreported, is still a very open question and way too early to know with the poor long COVID reporting, at least in the US.
