There has always been controversy on the dependency of Europe on Russian gas. Trump said nothing new and in hindsight he was right. And despite what you think I feel about America, you might be wrong.
It was generally believed Trump said this to promote American LNG. Because America first. He didn't give a shit about Germany. Not that the Germans were right in becoming so dependent on Russian gas, but I wouldn't say that taking Trump seriously is a more stable solution.
Then again, already years ago I spoke to a guy from NXP who worked on vehicle to vehicle communication, and according to him their main challenge was trust. When you receive data from another car, how do you know it's trustworthy? How do you secure the hardware and the communication protocols? That's what they were mainly working on (apart from designing the chips, of course). So not everyone is naive.
