Comment Re:Imagine... (Score 4, Insightful) 221

Some societies recognize that not everyone has the capacity or *checks notes* "financial morality" to ensure they earn enough to spend $10k/year on private insurance, ultimately propping up a predatory for-profit industry which America is admittedly completely free to shoot themselves in the foot with. Some societies recognize that supporting those in need with appropriate social systems and safety nets leads to LESS burden on society, not MORE burden. But please, continue cheerleading for the health insurers because you believe people who don't do as you do deserve to suffer, while better solutions exist.

Imagine being so scared of "socialism" that you would rather re-mortgage your house to pay off a heart attack, or leave your children nothing because your Estate is liquidated by a collection agency, instead of agreeing to pay taxes into a system that helps everyone in need when their time comes.

YES. THIS. I don't mind admitting I'm not a light-bulb fetishist even though I am interested in politics and they appear inseparable now? But, I bought a box of Daylight for this reason and put them in my basement, a pair. Fine. I left the light on one night so I'd remember to run the dryer before bed, and thought "wow they really meant Daylight, it's like the sun set outside but run down there" ...and my cat sure agreed, because the basement went from a "zero interest zone" to "ain't no toddler gate tall enough to keep me from you". So, we were both learning together.
