Some societies recognize that not everyone has the capacity or *checks notes* "financial morality" to ensure they earn enough to spend $10k/year on private insurance, ultimately propping up a predatory for-profit industry which America is admittedly completely free to shoot themselves in the foot with. Imagine being so scared of "socialism" that you would rather re-mortgage your house to pay off a heart attack, or leave your children nothing because your Estate is liquidated by a collection agency, instead of agreeing to pay taxes into a system that helps everyone in need when their time comes.
