Comment Tracking Regulations (Score 5, Informative) 21

Awesome write up Carl!

I'd like to expand a little on Carl's answer to, "How to keep track of legislative activity about open access? by oneiros27". FederalRegister.gov has exposed the ability to subscribe to any search via email or RSS. While this still suffers from the problem of what to search for, even a naive search can really help to filter the Federal Register content into some thing more digestible. And having it show up in my inbox definitely gets it in front of me if only briefly.

Additionally the FederalRegister.gov section pages introduced the idea of 'Suggested Searches' not that long ago. They are searches that are centered around a particular topic or sub-topic and also allow a user to further refine them. For example, the "Science & Technology" section has 10 suggested searches among which are "Broadband Policy" and "Patent, Trademark, and Copyright" which you can subscribe to.

And personally I have a search on Twitter (for "Federal Register" OR "federalregister.gov") which falls inline with Carl's suggestion of a social media solution. This at least filters to top articles that are garnering attention (and as it happens, the mentioned articles around access to data and research from federally funded research showed up in).

As a developer on FederalRegister.gov I can say we are always open to suggestions and ideas that would allow the FR content to be more easily consumed!
