Define 'adult' things? Why are people so willing to let Government and Business decide their morals and ethics for them? You understand there's no 'proof' indicating a child experienced to porn is going to magically turn into a rapist/murderer/pervert. This desire to censor and control, it's scary. There's nothing wrong with the current internet, it's weakness is the same that will be included in any future version of the idea - human beings. As long as we exist, and as long as every person on this earth isn't precisely identifiable and anonymity/free speech isn't stifled, the 'internet' will always have it's weaknesses.

uhh you don't have to 'jail break' a computer. Also, this is quiet extreme for most people to accomplish simply because they want something like Latitude on their phones. Not to mention I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Apple figures out how to catch people on warranty matters like this (think about the 'tobacco smoking' thing a few months ago). I have yet to buy anything Apple (besides an old iPod Shuffle when they had the 'square' form factor, unbeatable in terms of a gym device) and yeah, I certainly recommend Apple products to the less than tech-savvy people that come to me for purchasing help. But all in all, Apple is sad.

Wow, really getting sick of this 'netbooks are underpowered' crap that the market/media seems to be pushing on us. We get it, you like the illusion that they can't do anything but email/browse so we'll buy your more expensive machines. I have a Lenovo s10-2 with an extra 1GB ram (2GB total), which when all was said and done cost be about $400 USD. There's nothing I cannot do unless directly hindered by my limited resolution (which I easily solve by plugging into my monitor (which I also did/do with my other notebooks ranging from 13"-17")). I have Photoshop (which sure, takes an extra 30sec-1min to start up than my dual core, who cares?), I have the same amount 'constant running' apps I've always had, there's only two web based apps that didn't exactly run as smooth as did before (Google Wave, Aviary, both early in development) and hell I can even smoothly run World Of Warcraft (with settings obviously brought down, but that's a given), in major cities running with 20++ FPS easily. This 'underpowered' bullshit is just that, an attempt at getting the uneducated consumer to move up a step in price. Anyone actually knowledgable/experienced in the market doesn't need a constant reminder that they're 'underpowered' as they know the tag is simply for the stupid.

Really? You consider an mp3, camera and browser useless? I don't know about you, but I don't feel like carrying around 4 different pocket sized devices everywhere I go. If I have to charge my battery every night before bed instead of having to charge 4 devices every two or three days while having to carry them around plus their chargers, I'll make that sacrifice. Slashdot is full of old guys whom just won't get with the times because they simply believe 'they're right'. Whatever, you'll be dead soon and we can get on with progress, thanks.

Google brings us information, more often than not produced by someone else. This is a concept upon which all of humanity exists upon. The only difference is now there's a new medium and they're doing it better than everyone else. Murdoch (and others) are from a generation were they had control. A generation where they did something, and made lots and lots of money. However, much like the entirety of human history, advances happen. Because of those advancements they can no longer control what they used to. Too often does our society stifle innovation because it threatens a certain sect of individuals control. Adapt or die, thanks.

While I share your hate with advertising, Google does none of the things you listed. In fact Google is making an extremely good effort to not have these intrusive, unrelated, and untruthful Ads. That said, I still hate Ads -even Google Ads. But it exists. Google has awesome products and services. Why would I hate a company that is attempting (and somewhat succeeding) at making something I hate better and offering me excellent things while doing so. Basically, sounds like you're an angry irrational kid whom can type. Your 'generalized' way of thinking is exactly why endless amounts of 'problems' exist in the world (Racism, for example). Congratulations, moron.

Robot Invented To Crawl Through Veins 99

Slatterz writes "Scientists from Israel's Technion University have unveiled a tiny robot, made using Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) technology, purportedly able to crawl through a person's veins in order to diagnose and potentially treat artery blockage and cancer. The little robot — with a diameter of just one millimeter — has neither engine nor onboard controls, instead being propelled forward by a magnetic field wielded on it from outside the patient's body."
