I read up on weather radio products after this flood news. The "Specific Area Message Encoding" protocol enables you to receive only those alerts that cover your immediate area. Of course, you have to have a radio that decodes those signals and you local authorities have to opt in, so it's not a cure-all. From reviews, getting the right radio and setting it up properly are non-trivial tasks.

Do the people being let go lack the needed skills AND are untrainable? The first step in hiring 10 people is firing 10 others? Where I work, if the company opens new "job requisitions" they first advertise those internally before opening them to outside/new hires. It's called lateral movement. Of course, if it's about cutting payroll then that's a different story, but here they mentioned talent.

I agree that efforts should be backed by positive data/studies, but the various disconnected plans aren't mutually exclusive. Changing your thermostat two degrees has an immeasurable effect on climate, but if everyone does it it'll reduce emissions at the power plant. Same with combining errands into a single trip. "Death [to carbon emissions] by a thousand cuts." If they're already burning this invasive mesquite species, why not turn it to charcoal and till it into the ground? I don't get any carbon credits from my thermostat (though I do get "digital credits" for selecting "Amazon day delivery"), but that doesn't make it a bad idea.
