Comment Re:Essay Draws Parallels to Knighthood (Score 1) 50

I thought the parallels drawn between the open source movement and the feudal concept of knighthood were far more insightful and appropriate.
I have to sort of agree with this. But I think that the reason the knighthood analogy was more insightful is because it was actually explained and tied in. Had he explained the parallels between burningman and the open source community rather than leaving it up to the reader to understand, you all wouldnt be so confused. I did not spend much time trying to make it really clear, and you may not understand until you actually attend the festival, but I think that there is a great parallel between the open source community and burningman. I just wrote this one to try to explain why I think about his analogy.

Journal Journal: Costume update

- Gryffindor Quidditch player: I've started working on the sweater for this costume. That seems to be the harder part, since I need to knit the entire thing and it will take a while. So far, I have the neckline done, at least! :)

Journal Journal: Sometimes I'm clueless and sometimes I'm a genius.

It's strange how in some situations you know everything and in others you're an idiot. Take computer knowledge, for example. When I go to a class in which we need to use computers, I feel like I know everything... especially more than the professors. But, when going to buy a computer, I feel like I'm an idiot, because, while I know the difference between a CD burner, a ZIP drive, a DVD drive, and a hard drive, I don't know what brands are best and worst and what all these speeds are. Journal Journal: Pet peeve: crappy websites. 2

One thing I really can't stand is websites with poor navigation, poor grammar, bad formatting or sites that are just poorly run. There are too many of those at my university that professors have had set up for their classes. Some websites just scream FrontPage all over them. *shudder* I prefer coding html pages in Notepad.
Another annoying thing that makes a web page bad is when people play around with fonts and colors. Keep it simple, people! Pick two or three main colors and use various sh

Journal Journal: My first (and probably last) entry

Here we are, my first journal entry on Slashdot. I am always starting journals and then forgetting about them after a few days. However, maybe actually typing one will last longer. After all, I'm online 50% of my waking hours and typing more often than writing, these days. I used to be able to sit down and write a story and go on and on and on... but now, it's like, I just can't do it. I'm always starting novels but never finishing them, in the same way that I'll keep a journal for a few days
