I find Mastodon to be an absolute breath of fresh air. There's LOTS more engagement and it's friendly. It's the Canada of social networks! There do seem to be a lot of folks who signed up during the recent Great Twitter Migration and have never posted.
For years I tried Twitter. It was fun to read during big sporting events and such. But ultimately it wasn't particularly rewarding. And it always felt like being at a fancy aquarium. "You can look, but please don't knock on the glass."
Being on Mastodon now after years of floundering on Twitter is genuinely exciting. Granted I've spent a good amount of effort tending to my follows and seeking out favorite accounts on movetodon.org. But it has absolutely been worth it.
