A way that I found to be quite success when dealing with Bell Sympatico (Canada) on a very bad situation, was to contact their PR department, explain the situation and the fact that you have extremely good contacts with some very influencial high tech media personnel and would be most anxious to talk to them if the problem doesn't get resolved. I was put in touch with their highest level of complaints department (the real pros) and ended up getting a letter of apology from an Executive VP within a very short amount of time. There were several other conditions to my complaint and all were resolved.
These companies don't want bad press, but they sometimes have to get it or be threatened with it in order to make a significant change to their procedures.
