Otter's Journal: Gentoo on MacOS X

Maybe this is old news, but while Googling to fix a linking problem on my new academic-discounted Tiger install I discovered Gentoo for OS X. I dunno -- I like Gentoo, but that just seems ... wrong.

Anyway, fighting the current problem (Fortran projects won't compile in Tiger) is enough masochism for me, especially since the same problem appears to affect this Gentoo thing.

This is with xlf? This is because Apple pissed off IBM.

If this is with gfortran 4.1, you need a newer cctools.

Well, I figured I'd do the new system update and then see what happens. The library in question isn't installed in my current version.

cctools is usually installed with the dev tools. But sometimes new ones come out to support the FSF GCC releases:

OK, thanks! To be honest, I know nothing about this Fortran stuff (just trying to build some R and Python packages) so I'm going to go slow on this, but if the Apple update doesn't do it I'll give that a shot.
