Comment the creativity of code (Score 1) 630
I think people are looking at this the wrong way - because computer code is *sometimes* used to solve real world problems, people think of it as a tool. This notion is reinforced by the fact that 99% or so of the general population (all non-programmers) don't understand it. How many examples of 'high art' (such as the famous multi-million dollar painting of a red line on white canvas) do we see where nobody but the artist (and a few art critics) understand it ? Is this not a similar situation ?
Isn't it a really sad commentary on human nature that we even attach enough importance to 'movies' that we have to have this much debate about it ? That there's even a chance of losing 1% of our free speech because of something as idiotic as hollywood crap (and "it's" lawyers). It's mostly low-brow entertainment made by people with very small brain/education levels (yes, I know there are exceptions)- just watch & listen when they give interviews....
The USA would be such a better place if hollywood as a whole just went bankrupt & closed down. How many billions of person-hours have been wasted watching celebrity TV shows alone ?!?!? Maybe then we could focus (make them celebrities ??) on people who actually do something important/useful - like medical research, or working to save our freedom of speech, or helping the disadvantaged in the world....
