What To Do With Old USB Keys, Low-Capacity Hard Drives? 546

MessedRocker writes "I have at least a few USB flash drives around that I haven't needed since I got my 16GB flash drive, a 40GB external hard drive which I haven't needed since I upgraded to 500GB, and a couple of SATA hard drives I have pulled out of laptops which are either as large or smaller than the one I have in my laptop now. Furthermore, I don't really know anyone who needs any hard drives or flash drives. What should I do with my small, obsolete storage devices?"

Dell's Rugged Laptop Doesn't Quite Pass 4-Foot Drop Test 113

narramissic writes "Dell's new Latitude E6400 XFR laptop is designed to withstand drops, dust and high pressure water spray. The company claims the laptop, which is intended for military use, can withstand rain and wind gusts of up 70 mph, and can work in temperatures from -20 to 145 degrees Fahrenheit. It can also work for an hour at an altitude of 15,000 feet and is designed to withstand drops of around 4 feet (48 inches) when not operating and 36 inches when operational. The LCD screen floats a little bit within the LCD cover so it can take impacts and shock, said Jeremy Bolen, a Dell spokesman. But watch as the laptop that Dell used to show these features wasn't able to withstand the rough treatment that was part of the company's demonstration."

Yes. An OS had better be really bloody sure it
is important before flinging a dialog box at me.

And what about applications that pull themselves
into the foreground when THEY want attention. There has to be a better way (blinking minimized
icons are annoying, but better then leaping at me)

I hate losing keystrokes into an application or window that just flew forward. Especially confirming things that I have no idea what was. And also, when I launch an application and it starts loading, if I flip to another app, I don't want the old app to throw itself on the top of the app I'm working in just because it is ready for me.

Just because most people don't have 20 apps open at once, doesn't mean I shouldn't. I've got a hefty machine, it can handle the load, why can't the UI?
