A standout scene from Breaking Bad was when Walt writes out his first (huge) check/cheque for his chemo. This single scene from so many memorable ones across that incredible series summed up what is wrong with contemporary society. We are powerless ants subservient to corporations with as much compassion and sense of right and wrong as a hungry wolf. To solve all this, we need to completely disconnect from the grid. Make our own electricity (with help from Tesla Energy), collect our own water from rain - and filter it, and use architectural concepts that ensure natural cooling and warming, with clever use of large windows and airflow. Google 'Earthships' to see some amazing sustainable living homes of this type in the USA. The number one way to destroy an evil industry legally is to starve it of money, so don't spend money on energy you don't make yourself!

Back when I was a caveman, (Ogg the Massive), if I felt peckish, whilst the missus scrubbed the cave and Ogg the Minor made hand prints on the walls upsetting said missus, I popped out to the plains and grabbed a few oranges from the bush. This took approximately 3 of what you modern humans call minutes. If I wanted a spear, I popped out again, grabbed a branch from the tree, broke the twigs off and sharpened the end using a nearby piece of flint. Ogg's your Uncle, instant satisfaction, and if a gazelle was passing by, the ability to enjoy the odd steak - all within about an hour of initial pangs! As I was saying, nothing changes. Amazon have just returned things to normal, cutting out the annoying environmental disaster that is to have to get in a car and pollute the environment all for a USB cable. One truck, many customers is better than many customers in lots of cars! And drones will make the process even more efficient. #ScTcObRbK #tt_ScTcObRbK

You are spot on. Britain has been bought by the criminals, including oil rich outsiders who are messing with our public transport, harassing the middle classes and generally creating chaos from order to ensure that evil profits whilst good men do nothing. And with regards to CCTV, what counts is strict parents keeping their children from committing crimes in the first place, rather than rely on cameras to 'police' every nook and cranny of the state, without actually preventing the crime. If our disgusting previous government had not allowed liberal family values to decimate this nation, many injured and murdered victims would not have suffered.

Solar Panels For Your Pants 81

Phoghat writes "A new line of clothes come with its own solar panels to charge small electronics in your pocket. It might be overdoing the 'Green' technology but for the low, low price of $920, you can own a pair of Go Urban Cargo Pants, which boasts 'fly front, low-slung drawstring waist, and two back patch pockets with button down flaps,' but the main reason you might want them is the: "'two side cargo pockets with independently functioning power supply.'"

I know this is not what this question is about, but I have some files of various formats, some recent, some old, that have been corrupted but that I need back. Any ideas how I can recover them? Most are Adobe Illustrator or Quark files, and a few others Word docs. Reply at 'wazzupalex AT gmail DOT COM' and here on on /. Cheers.

Survey Shows That Fox News Makes You Less Informed 1352

A survey of American voters by World Public Opinion shows that Fox News viewers are significantly more misinformed than consumers of news from other sources. One of the most interesting questions was about President Obama's birthplace. 63 percent of Fox viewers believe Obama was not born in the US (or that it is unclear). In 2003 a similar study about the Iraq war showed that Fox viewers were once again less knowledgeable on the subject than average. Let the flame war begin!

The patent gives substantial leverage for OnLive over competing brands in the cloud-based gaming market. 'Hundreds of people have worked incredibly hard for more than eight years to bring OnLive technology from the lab to the mass market, not just overcoming technical and business challenges, but overcoming immense skepticism,' said OnLive CEO Steve Perlman. 'It is gratifying to not only see people throughout the world enjoying OnLive technology in the wake of so many doubters, but also receive recognition for such a key invention.'"

4chan Declares War On Snow 201

With all the recent hacktivism in the news, Anonymous has decided to take on a new and powerful enemy: snow. On Sunday the group announced that it will "do everything in its power to shut snow down by attacking the Weather Channel and North Face websites, boycotting outerwear, and voting for the sun as Time’s 2010 Person Of The Year." I'm sure there are a lot of people in Minneapolis right now that would wish them luck.
