Journal October_30th's Journal: More ice 13
Damn.
This morning I had to take the bus to work as the roads were covered by black ice. I can't understand why the morons who maintain the public roads have not already been spreading tons of sand and gravel around. Well, it could be worse. At least they've stopped using salts. I rather have iced roads than that chemical crap clogging and corroding everything as well as poisoning the groundwater.
But on a more positive note, my research budget is now pretty much secured for the next three years. Huzzah!

No, seriously, I'm a physicist. Solid state physics at low dimensions. Quantum wells/wires, self-assembly on surfaces, nano-oxides, things like that.

Agewise I still have the luxury of not having to commit to either path until 3-4 years from now. ;) I've made good headway into the academia, but since the other half of the lab is well connected to the industry, it's seriously tempting to at least try the more applied side. I like symmetry in everything and right now my CV is tilting way too much towards fundamental research.

Indeed I do have studded tires now - in storage. The problem is that they're just that: outer tires. I'll have to take the time to rip off the summer (outer) tires, deflate the inner tire, install the studded outer tires and inflate the inner tires again. Yes, I did have the time to do that during the weekend, but I was busy drinking beer and Glenfiddich. ;)

9 km each way is not too bad. If I get this job I've been interviewing for, it will be around 9 km each way. Some hills but nothing serious.
