Comment Errr, no, not Britain. (Score 1) 127

The article incorrectly states Britain. The propossed law affects England & Wales only. There is separate legislature in Scotland (and there will likely be a vote there too, in due course - although a similar bill was previously defeated). Northern Ireland also has a separate legislature which is not currently planning to have a vote on assisted dying.

Is it just me or can others see the obvious health and safety flaw here? Whether it be a snoozing cat or dog, or your granny, or a toddler in the garden fascinated by a hovering thing overhead, dropping something weighing up to ten pounds from a height of twelve feet is really not a good plan.

This all sounds very similar to Z and VDM - which at the end of the 1980s early 1990s was clearly going to be the way programming was going. I even put myself on a couple of courses to learn those formal methods - apparently I was guaranteed to get a return on my investment in my upgraded skills (or so I was told). Hohum. The problem was, they took time to learn and otherwise perfectly decent programmers couldn't necessarily get their heads around the esoteric nature of formal methods (being based on abstract logic and set theory) - and unless you were using them all the time you got rusty very rapidly. Maybe this time will be different...
