Part of carrying a gun is understanding that you can't get into fistfights without it escalating. Even if the gun is in your vehicle, you need to understand where you are, what the laws mean for that gun and act accordingly so that you do not loose control of it. Somebody could break into your car and take your gun, somebody could break your nose, get your keys and take your gun. Is it locked in a box or is it sitting in your center console? Simply hidden is not good enough, everybody who carrys needs to understand that. You have to take extra care to make sure you act responsibly and always keep that weapon's disposition in mind. This jackass will never own a gun again, which may well be for the best. Still, the bottom line is that he lost control of his gun and that fault is squarely on him. You simply cannot attack a police officer, especially when you have a gun in your possession. Yes, even if it's in your car.

He wasn't wandering around with a gun, he was already under arrest for being an ass by Federal law enforcement who later retrieved the gun from his vehicle. The fact is that from what little information we have, it sounds like they cancelled the event for a threat that never existed. Maybe he made threats, but I'm certain that would've been included in the Park Rangers statement.

Apparently I hit my free read limit and I didn't see that until just now when I clicked it for the third time. Either way the article was really light on details and it sounds like they needlessly cancelled the event for a non-existent threat. Shame too. Part of being a responsible gun owner is not acting the fool while you have a weapon on your person or in your vehicle. I would like to know more about what happened, but right now it sounds like the guy was an ass.

Article is paywalled. I don't trust summaries of articles I can't read so I'm going to assume that he left his carry gun and it's standard capacity magazine loaded with defense ammo in his car and it was discovered after he got arrested by the Rangers for some stupid nonsense. Maybe I'm wrong, but until I can read more I just don't know.
