would you use the phone number as a universally unique id?

One user might have several phone numbers, while the one phone number might have several users.

Additionally, the phone number is not portable across national borders. You can not bring your Norwegian phone number and use it with an american registrar.

Additionally users might be forced at regular basis to change their phone numbers. Me for one, had to change my phone number when I changed employer.

Database designers have known this for ages. Always assign a new unique id to any row in a table. Ids that seem unique and stable might change. Even social security numbers might change.

Oh.. Who would want all their contact info to be collected in one global system available for all?

Botnet

Man Challenges 250,000 Strong Botnet and Succeeds 206

nandemoari writes "When security officials decide to 'go after' computer malware, most conduct their actions from a defensive standpoint. For most of us, finding a way to rid a computer of the malware suffices — but for one computer researcher, however, the change from a defensive to an offensive mentality is what ended the two year chase of a sinister botnet once and for all. For two years, Atif Mushtaq had been keeping the notorious Mega-D bot malware from infecting computer networks. As of this past November, he suddenly switched from defense to offense. Mega-D had forced more than 250,000 PCs to do its bidding via botnet control."

Microsoft Sues and Gets Sued 192

wubo writes, "Microsoft is apparently stepping up its anti-piracy measures by publishing the locations and specifics of their pending lawsuits. Check out the snazzy map — warms me heart and soul." And to even the scales of justice, one of the last remaining class-action antitrust lawsuits filed against Microsoft in a state court is set to go to trial in Iowa later this year. An anonymous reader writes, "Iowa consumers who purchased Microsoft products in the last 12 years are being represented in a class action anti-trust lawsuit against Microsoft. The jury trial begins on November 13 and is expected to last 6 months." Bill Gates is on the witness list.

Microsoft Developing Robotics Software 282

s31523 writes to tell us Microsoft recently announced the launch of their new Microsoft Robotics Group and the first product release, a software program to help robotics developers. Despite the timing this has nothing to do with the recent abdication by Gates, and was actually instigated by Gates before his departure. From the article "It might take many years, but Microsoft believes robotics could present a big opportunity as the market grows, said Tandy Trower, general manager of the Microsoft Robotics Group. He cited estimates predicting that consumer robotics alone will grow into a multibillion-dollar industry in five to 10 years."

Journal Journal: Yet another lesson learned

I just learned not to answer to my own posts as the post aren't interesting, only as a part of the first post. Thus I got flamebated again, due to high nerves. An I managed to post another reply.. WHYYY.. I'm so stupid.. Now my karma is going to fall to minus infinity.

Journal Journal: Flaimbaited, again

Somehow I managed to get flaimbaited, again.. The lesson I should learn is not to post any messages which include the american warfare, or military in anyways. People are extreemly tender to these subjects, and tend to flaimbate posts that otherwise would have been funny or interesting. Don't ever coclude that they are waisting money on their army or ignoring internal programs. We're not supposed to meddle in their politics, less even speak about it? Will they ever understand that whatever the
