Comment Re:Shape and orbit (Score 1) 410

Nice idea, except all planet/moon systems currently orbit a center of mass that is not at the center of either body. The Earth and Moon both orbit a center of mass point. It happens that due to the masses of each, and their distance apart that the center of mass of the system is somewhere beneath the Earth's surface, but not at the center of the Earth. I gather that you are thinking of systems where the center of mass is not within either body. This seems arbitrary scientifically, but understandable in a common sense sort of way.

Here is the Wikipedia's entry for Barycenter, with some helpful diagrams illustrating the concept.

Comment Real money and 'getting a life' (Score 1) 285

Just a couple of points...

1) Based on posts in this thread and related MMO game threads, a lot of people seem to think spending real money on virtual things or virtual money is insane. However, what exactly do you all think is "real" about money anyway? Money is by it's very nature a *virtual* abstraction of supposedly-objective value inherent in goods and services (which themselves may or may not be "real").

2) Saying the people playing these games need to get a life is rather disingenuous. Life is what a person experiences so how could playing a game not be part of someone's life? And if life is experience the only way to limit life (in the non-biological sense of the word) would be to experience less. Since the "real world" is the encumbent paradigm of experience it seems like adding other "virtual" realities/lives should just increase experience all the more and is actually an excellent way to "get a life". =)
I wonder if future generations will see "real world superiority" in a similar manner as we see the idea of a flat earth.

I agree with you on that, unfortunately. Look harder, still.

Here is where you work from nothing but your imagination: "Half the population has tits. If you think yours are so much more 'distracting' than the rest of womankind's, then maybe it's just you. Here's an idea, stop wearing that pushup bra. Oh wait, then it would be more difficult to attract men."

No pushup bras were utilized in the anecdote of the previous post, and nothing was mentioned about attracting men in any context. Kudos to you though for posting so truthfully as an anonymous coward!!!
