So I host a server with 50 domains on one IP address, and 5 SSL sites each with there own IP address. Rather then having 6 IP's I share one of them with the same address as the virtual domains. So 50 sites when queried with HTTPS will show the wrong SSL cert, and if some of those virtual domains have wild card hostnames, the number is much higher.

So I would bet the vast majority of the invalid certs are for the wrong host entirely. So for my example 2% are valid, and its only 50 hosts (excluding the other 4 SSL domains).

Programming

Inside Intel's $20M Multicore Research Program 187

An anonymous reader writes "You may have heard about Intel's and Microsoft's efforts to finally get multi-core programming into gear so that there actually will be a developer who can program all those fancy new multicore processors, which may have dozens of core on one chip within a few years. TG Daily has an interesting article about the project, written by one of the researchers. It looks like there is a lot of excitement around the opportunity to create a new generation of development tools. Let's hope that we will soon see software that can exploit those 16+core babies. 'The problem of multi-core programming is staring at us right now. I am not sure what Intel's and Microsoft's expectations are, but it is quite possible that they are in fact looking at fundamental results from the academic centers to leverage their large work force to polish and realize the ideas that come forth. It calls for a much closer collaboration between the centers and the companies than it appears at first sight.'"

I wouldn't agree that software patents are a bad thing. However almost every time I think of an idea for software it turns out someone has patented it, so I don't bother writing anything.

The problem is that a lot of them are obvious, and a patent isn't supposed to be obvious. Maybe it isn't obvious to someone who isn't a programmer. So, the problem is that too many software patents are obvious, not that software patents bad.

Feed It's Only A Game Of Chance: Leading Theory Of Perception Called Into Question (sciencedaily.com)

Cells in the central nervous system tend to communicate with each other via a wave of electrical signals that travel along neurons. The question is: How does the brain translate this information to allow us to perceive and understand the world? It was believed that these signals generated patterns that the brain could interpret; however, new research shows that such patterns may be random. These studies will contribute to the ongoing debate on neuronal coding.

Journal Journal: Stop spam, with spam. Make email useless. 2

Spammers make about 5 times more then most systems administrators is the spammers work only a few days a month.

Spammers charge a flat rate for units of messages sent.

Maybe we should start spamming, charge lower and lower rates until its no longer profitable to spam.

Why pay for something when someone will do it for free.

Journal Journal: FF XI and EverQuest

I've recently been playing everquest on the PS2 again. I really started this again after reading about FF XI. One of the reasons for this is that FF XI supports 'Soloing' and 'Grouping'. I really just had to go through EQ soloing and grouping to reinforce exactly what it is that I dislike about EQ.

Journal Journal: Jabber

Everyone should be using jabber. Why?

AIM is AOL,
MSN is Microsoft,
YIM is Yahoo,
ICQ is umm... that one company.

All of these are centralized.

Jabber is decentralized, while its not exactly P2P, anyone can run a server, and all those servers talk together.

Infact it works like internet email, multiple servers. You can run your own, use someone elses, etc...

But what about all those other people that use AIM, MSN, ICQ etc?
