It's ok if you want to remain ignorant. No one claimed to be an expert, except maybe you... Where's your facts about fake meat being better for the environment? So you're ok with wasting you time reading ignorant comments, but don't want to see the scientific data & listen to the real experts (employed by the government to study these specific things - land use, methane emissions, etc.) It's ok - repeat bullshit & continue to show your ignorance..

I think the author meant "desktop OS", because iOS has required online activation for as long as I can recall. Doesn't make the practice any less consumer-hostile, though.

You are half correct. All Apple products require online access to Activate with Apple - Only to activate with Apple, to make sure they're not owned by a company (Apple Business Manager), reported stolen or Find my... locked. No Apple product requires you to sign in with an Apple ID. PERIOD! So the author is correct: Windows 11 Home/Pro are the only consumer OS to require account sign-in to enable even basic functionality.

As if the tablet could read your mind, and manipulate the video to please you... And BTW - there is no AI involved on pinch to zoom on Apple devices. Really? How long has Intel been doing this? How long has Apple been doing this? Apple is eating Intel's lunch in designing better CPUs. If as you claim "supporting old architecture" is what's holding back Intel, maybe they should have changed? How did Itanium work out for them?!?!?! Apple produces good products that people want to buy. This includes general purpose computers. Intel also makes "reference" design desktops & laptops (check out Linux Tech Talks). Intel is still behind (especially considering power requirements/performance).

My reply wasn't personal. It was a rebutal when someone posts inaccurate information. Fn-Left Arrow does send "Home", even in terminal. Fn-Right Arrow sends End, also. By default, in the built-in terminal app, the Home & End keys are used to scroll the view to the top line in the terminal or the bottom line in the terminal. They could be reassigned to whatever you wanted in BASH (remove them as shortcuts for the terminal.) And my personal experience is that Windows inconsistently passes clicks through. The app becomes active & comes to the front, but depending on the app, the click may or may not activate the cell/button/etc. Try it yourself with Word, Excel, etc. macOS is more consistent. And with Linux - pot luck, depending on the window manger, display manager, etc.

OSX is essentially Linux already and has a far better user experience than any of the Linux desktop flavors. If you absolutely need that, virtualize it.

macOS X and Linux only share the aspect that they have a Unix-like flavour, with a number of libraries and applications benefiting from that. Otherwise when it comes to the kernel they couldn't be more different. The macOS Kernel is known a XNU. I did try looking a good comparison of both the kernels, but you'll need to start with these:

- https://www.linuxandubuntu.com... - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

macOS is not "Unix-like". macOS is certified as UNIX. Linux is not. https://www.opengroup.org/open...

Like the other guy said, "Your laptop is old and no longer supported by Apple."

It's probably less an issue for laptops, but Apple's 5 years of support is inadequate for a desktop. I have a 2009 mini that still works fine, but the last supported OS was El Capitan, and that support ended in 2018.

Mint Linux 19.3 works fine on it, and is supported until 2023. I could even try 20 point whatever, but I'm not sure how a core 2 duo will do on a 5 point something kernel.

Apple's least green policy is early abandonment of still useful hardware. I can see cutting off the OS versions as the the feature creep outruns the hardware, but a few more years of security updates wouldn't bankrupt them.

Ah - so you contradict yourself and show you are a lier, "Apple's 5 years of support is inadequate for a desktop. I have a 2009 mini that still works fine, but the last supported OS was El Capitan, and that support ended in 2018." By my count, that's 9 years of support, right (2009 thru 2018)?

Mainly because I constantly find things about the macOS UI that annoy me and hinder me, despite the supposed consistency macOS tries to bring. I've never liked the terminal emulators on macOS either. Partly a matter of how macOS keyboard conventions (no home and end for example) conflict with how I use the terminal. And then there's the focus policies, especially how MacOS used to eat mouse clicks when focusing on a different app. Not sure if it still does that now, but it annoyed me for years.

I'm far more comfortable and productive on my Fedora box with the Mate Desktop.

macOS has ALWAYS had Home & End - learn to use the Fn key! Focus has always been the BEST (in my opinion) on macOS. You can even pass-thru a mouse click to an app that doesn't have focus, by holding the CMD key (been this way in all macOS/OS X versions). I've NEVER had it eat mouse clicks. Windows & Linux are just the opposite, in my opinion - I never know if a mouse click in another app not in focus will be "eaten" or work/pass-thru to the app when I click it. Maybe you should learn some & try again?

And you are fucking wrong. Launch any Nintendo app/game, Play store app/game, or Xbox (any generation ) app/game and see if you EVER find any advertisement for other payment options for in-app purchases. Same thing applies to Google's Play store, except now Google is discussing changing that.

Apple turns unencrypted syncing of all your photos to the cloud on every time you do some or all of these:

- Update iOS - Turn on find my iPhone - Turn on copy-paste between your iPhone and Mac - Turn on screen sharing between your iPad and Mac

unless you turn it off after each of those cases. And even still, the uploading of your photos begins immediately and the time between when you turn on, say iPad screen sharing, and when you turn off photo sharing may upload some photos and it is not clear how to remove them.

---

In this case ^ "unencrypted" means employees have access to your photos and can print them, modify them in your account, and do anything they want with them.

There is SO much BULLSHIT out there about this, and this post is 100% BULLSHIT.

Apple NEVER turns iCloud Photo syncing in ANY of the cases listed, and the last item "screen sharing between your iPad and Mac" doesn't even exist! It's a feature coming with the next OS release, but fuck - it doesn't exist now.

And Jesus Fucking Christ - "it is not clear how to remove them". HOW stupid can you be? If you ever do turn on iCloud photos, and there's a photo synced to the cloud that you don't want, you simply DELETE it, and empty the recently deleted photos. IT IS DOCUMENTED!

Ever seen or actually use an Apple device, FUCKTARD?
