I generally agree. Kubrick was indeed ahead of his time, although he does seem quite conservative by today's standards. Speilberg is a "Walt Disney" of commercialized cinema. He has a tuned instinct for knowing what the public wants, and he is able to capitalize on it. However, to his credit, I think that Speilberg's last few serious movies (Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List) show that he's capable of far better films than his usual pap. And let's not forget Speilberg's spectacular failures (1941, Hook,...) . By the way, am I the only one who enjoyed Eyes Wide Shut? Any film that features Kidman's bare bum can't be all bad.
