It's totally true! Although I normally try and drive semi-efficiently and not push the car too much, the fact is that I'm often in a rush and will accelerate fast to get in front of other cars, etc. etc. But with my new prius with a fuel economy display I'm always driving nice and easily trying to up that mileage rating! Every time the average for the whole trip goes up I'm very proud. :)

Intel To Lay Off 1000 Managers 291

sprash writes to mention a Forbes article about an Intel cost-cutting measure. In response to stiff competition from AMD, the company is laying off 1000 managerial positions. From the article: "In April, Intel reported a 38 percent drop in first-quarter profit as demand slackened for PCs and microprocessors from AMD continued to steal market share. That same month, Chief Executive Paul Otellini vowed to spend the next 90 days identifying underperforming business groups and cost inefficiencies in an effort to save the company $1 billion a year. He said he planned to make changes as his analysis progressed, rather than waiting until the end of his review."

Reggie admits that the initial software lineup for the GameCube was simply not 'diverse and strong enough from a first and third-party perspective,' and by Nintendo's showing at E3 2006, the Wii will launch with a wide variety of games for may types of gamers."

Ticketmaster to Start Online Ticket Auction 390

They claim it's to eliminate scalping, but in truth it guarantees every seat will be scalped for the highest price with all the money going to ticketmaster. It also eliminates the possibility of getting a decent seat by waiting in line or being lucky."

New Congressional Bill Makes DMCA Look Tame 895

An anonymous reader writes "Representative Lamar Smith is sponsoring the Intellectual Property Protection Act. The new bill is designed to give the Justice Department 'tools to combat IP crime' which which are used to 'quite frankly, fund terrorism activities,' according to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Among the provisions is lowering the standards for 'willful copyright violation' and increasing the corresponding prison term to 10 years." More information is also available at publicknowledge.org.
