Comment "general" vs "something very specific" (Score 2) 151

So if you "specify" artificial general intelligence to be not "general", as the term implies, but "something very specific", its opposite, you can have it soon.

Also, if you wanted broadband, we can give you narrow now, but let's call it broad, then everyone will be happy, no?

Comment Distance metrics in perceptual color space (Score 1) 67

The study found that a widely used distance metric in a perceptual color space model is inaccurate, especially over long distances. Calling it a "math error" as phys.org does, is clickbaity. "All models are wrong, but some are useful." The current models have brought us quite far, but they could certainly be improved.

Deaths lag cases by about four weeks. We *just* passed the four-week mark a couple of days ago, and yesterday, the deaths from COVID jumped by 250% from the day before, and/or from the 7-day moving average, which is just about right on cue.

Do you refer to ZA's 105 reported deaths on Dec 20, following 3 reported deaths on Dec 19, following 48 reported deaths on Dec 18?

If you do not have inside information, you should stick to the 7-day moving average, and not attribute any significance to the deviation of any single day from it, especially if it follows another day wildly deviating in the opposite direction.

The above numbers seem like reporting artefacts, not a "250% jump [...] just about right on cue."
