Attackers that got in via other means can use these devices to achieve persistence. Wiping malware off computers is one thing but scrubbing all your printers and cameras isn't generally something done by incident responders. You'd have to have good traffic analysis to catch this too.

My org tried this workaround a while back on some computers that didn't meet Win 11 hardware requirements (7th gen intel CPU). They were fine until the next feature update (annual/6month?) rolls out, and then that fails. The entire argument for linux here is they aren't arbitrarily cutting off old hardware like microsoft is in a couple months. Personally I tried linux for my own use and was pretty darn close but ran into some hardware drivers that just weren't ready. Bad laptop selection on my part? I'm probably going to end up with a mac for personal use.

DNS-01 challenge requires a agent that is compatible in your infrastructure AND your DNS provider that narrows the field considerably, I already know of one in my infrastructure that isn't compatible. Google seems named here but I have to wonder how much Cloudflare pushed this one too...

It's a big piece of the problem but not the complete solution. Once you've identified something malicious you can then automate the back channels to the social media providers to get posts using that flagged for mis/dis/malinformation en masse, and/or straight up block others from posting the same thing upon submittal. This will probably be abused...

Absolutely, either because they will be right there monitoring the class, or doing the teaching themselves. No need for the parent to insist on having the phone in those cases. Or they will have a direct line to the current teacher if it's an out of home situation, way better than some front office committee they have no control over.
