Comment Actual UFO != Conspiracy nuts' UFO (Score 1) 441

The term UFO carries two meanings.
There's a world of difference between pilots encountering actual "unidentified flying objects" during their flights and conspiracy theorists seeing flying saucers, sentient floating lights and aliens everywhere. That the former "admits their existence" (actual UFOs have never been taboo) doesn't make the later any less of a nut job.
Anything can be a UFO, so long as it is, you guessed it, unidentified. A tree leaf, a weird cloud formation or an optical phenomenon can all be UFOs.
Stop normalizing people's delusion.

As carnivores with the ability to eat vegetables, we need meat to thrive. I do not want to just survive.

1. We are omnivores, not carnivores.
2. While it is without contest one of the most nutritious food you can get, we don't need meat to "thrive". Sure, it's definitely less convenient having to find some vital nutrients elsewhere but it's not impossible.
3. Not wanting to just survive might be the very reason we should reduce our meat consumption. And I'm not just talking about the environmental footprint which might first to come to mind.
The rising antimicrobial resistance (AMR), in good part fueled by automatically feeding livestock with ridiculous quantities of them, is a real issue and has lead directly and indirectly to an estimated 700.000 deaths globally in 2016.
The WHO predicts the 2050 death toll could rise up to 10 million per year with US$ 100 trillion in losses if nothing is done to reverse the trend.

I'm not vegan or vegetarian but I acknowledge that our current lifestyle is not sustainable. I'm aiming to reduce my meat consumption to more reasonable levels, as should everyone.

I don't really know how SIMs work but is this not a good thing ? Is this not possible to slowly start getting rid of SIMs and only use smartphones' antenna and something like credentials in order to connect to the GSM network ? SIM cards take space and when you change carrier, they need to send you a new SIM, you have to change it, it takes time, etc. Having a soldered SIM that you can reprogram seems to me no different than having a SIMless device that you can connect and disconnect from any communication app, just like you can already do with any smartphone for any app, except this time it is to connect to the GSM network. I'm probably missing something as I'm not really knowledgeable on that matter so enlighten me, please.
