We've had this as a policy in Sweden for quite some time now. The Swedish police posts all traffic surveillance on their home page in the hope that people will act more responsibly if they know they have an increased risk of getting cought. Don't know how well it works but on Wikipedias list of road fatalities per 100k inhabitants/ year we're on second place globally.

No need to export the video feed to them as I just want the 3d video stream for myself and perhaps a few selected friends.
Would be cool to insert avatars from several people there though. A 3d video version of the old MOO concept, or a local second life with a live video background to use a more modern analogy.
Bandwidth will be an issue however.

Check out cryptome.org. More toned down and to the point and less attention whoring. I've always had more respect for these guys than the WikiLeaks crowd. Then again, WikiLeaks are getting all this attention thanks to the drama antics I despise. Perhaps it's needed in todays media landscape.

Submission + - Breakthrough portends cure for the common cold (independent.co.uk) 1

breadboy21 writes: Scientists have been able to show for the first time that the body's immune defences can destroy the common cold virus after it has actually invaded the inner sanctum of a human cell, a feat that was believed until now to be impossible.

The discovery opens the door to the development of a new class of antiviral drugs that work by enhancing this natural virus-killing machinery of the cell. Scientists believe the first clinical trials of new drugs based on the findings could begin within two to five years.

Submission + - Big Brother Barbie (forbes.com)

nonprofiteer writes: Mattel's holiday creation is Video Girl Barbie, which comes with a hidden camera installed in Barbie's torso. The lens is disguised as a necklace. The Barbie can hold up to 30 minutes of video, and then can be hooked up to a computer for uploading. Experts are worried about pedophiles taking advantage of posted Barbie footage. I'm worried about the havoc that little girls with hidden cameras are going to wreak.

Submission + - OpenBSD 4.8 Officially Released (marc.info)

Mortimer.CA writes: OpenBSD 4.8 has been announced. Highlights include ACPI suspend/resume, better hardware support, OpenBGPD/OpenOSPFD/routing daemon improvements, inclusion of OpenSSH 5.5, etc. Nothing revolutionary, just the usual steady improving of the system. A detailed ChangeLog is available, as usual. Work of course has already started on the next release, which should be ready in May according to the steady six month release cycle.
