You misunderstand what he is saying (BTW, "yourself" is 1 word).

The article states that *any* bluetooth item can be tracked using their network, by pretending to be an Airtag.
While Apple obviously only has functionality to track Airtags, not any bluetooth item.
Therefore, malcreants have more power & functionality than actual users.

Which decently secure OS are you thinking about? Linux also gets malware ...
Either OS are tiny and practically irrelevant (e.g. Redox OS), or big and therefore vulnerable.
The in-betweens like FreeBSD are just not popular enough to warrant lots of malware, but that doesn't prove that they are secure.

If most corporate (human-facing) devices ran MacOS or some BSD, there would also be magnitudes more malware for them.

Swiss banks used to have banking secrecy. It went so far as that you could have an account, with no registered owner.
(This is why in movies, the banker is often Swiss, or the characters go to Switzerland to hide / launder money).
The US didn't like this and threatened to put Switzerland on the list of tax havens, impose sanctions and blacklist it from certain international systems.
The Swiss held a vote (it's a direct democracy), and they decided that it's better not to slight the US, so they got rid of banking secrecy.

Today, there is no advantage whatsoever in having money in Swiss banks. Although most people still don't know this and the general public continues to think that Switzerland is a tax haven.

Russia invaded Georgia and Ukraine not long ago. Turkey is preparing to invade Syria as we speak. Israel invades Gaza from time to time and has invaded Lebanon. Pakistan invaded India. Several african nations have invaded their neighbours. And we're not even speaking about softer influencing as done by Saudi Arabia, China (lots of political fallout for companies supporting Hong Kong protests), etc.

Ericsson Predicts Swift End For Wi-Fi Hotspots 286

mikesd81 writes "Mobile technology group Ericsson is predicting a 'swift end' for Wi-Fi hotspots, according to the PC Pro site. Johan Bergendahl, the company's chief marketing officer, offers this analysis: 'The rapid growth of mobile broadband is set to make Wi-Fi hotspots irrelevant ... Hotspots at places like Starbucks are becoming the telephone boxes of the broadband era. Industry will have to solve the international roaming issue ... Carriers need to work together. It can be as simple as paying 10 euros per day when you are abroad.' He also pointed to a lack of coverage as a potential hindrance to the growth of the technology."

Imagine listening in to the CEO of a Fortune500 company in the days preceding financial reports. You may gain very valuable information. As we saw last week, it is not considered insider trading if you hacked your way to the data. Also competing firms could use this to be one step ahead, and potentially can ruin another firm.
