I am in WA state where vaccination is terrible. What's worse, I'm in the county where whooping cough and measels are running rampant. The parents still hold true to that fake study about autism/vaccination link. They also want to make others get vaccinated to protect "THEIR" child. A lot of dumbfucks here. WA state has the easiest form of exception and you do not need to prove anything to say no to vaccination. Personal feelings are acceptable for exception. Mississippi on the other hand requires vaccination with 0.00% exception. On the other hand, Mississippi is a major social disease ;)

This is great news actually. It shows, there's a God out there. If it happens, God willed it. /sarcasm That's the problem these days. We do not have teachers who know science very well. How do you expect students to learn. I came from a school system that did not value science and we learned 'new math.' when I went to college, I spent my entire 1st year attempting catching up. I don't think there's enough money in the world that we can throw at this to make students understand the theory of gravity except from shows like 'jackass' and on youtube. I think the best way students can learn about science is to increase the Darwin Awards (sorry religious folks) categories of relativity (stupidity) of action and reaction. I think kids these days are too coddled by extremism in the education: helicopter/inattentive parents, religious right/liberal left, lawyers/lawsuits, etc. you get the point. If people sat down on the table with a beer, knife and fingers, they will understand how life/sh*t happens.

Remember back when XP didn't include codecs for DVD playback? it's back to the same situation. It all comes down to licensing. MS is just passing the codec cost down to the end user. I suspect it's related to the Motorola lawsuit that is going on. BTW, Corecodec is $13 USD so modest fee would be something like that. Also, for those of you ABMers, complaining about paying $199 USD for a OEM Windows license + modest fee for CODECs, you have no ground to stand on. You can say, will go install Linux. If you look at how much time it takes to install Linux compared to Windows and reinstall everytime there's an update, you are really not truly saving any money. Question is, how much is your time worth? For those who are unemployed, it's kinda expensive. For those computer engineer's, it's equiv to 4 hrs of work. if it takes Linux 4hrs longer to install vs. windows, its' not cost effective.

If you read the paper or summary of the paper, it is talking about mutation and implicit manipulation of the virus to 'weaponize' the flu. The steps to mutate the virus was extremely simplistic and can be spread quickly around the globe. An example of how it would work would be similar to the movie Contagion. If you were in Asia during SARS or Africa during Ebola, you would see how fast society/community collapsed. Panic ensures, rich ppl got cures/protection while poor got guns. By delaying the publication, WHO can allow some scientists to develop vaccines to immunize or have counter agents available for key gov't officials to ensure continuance of governance. (aka, politically connected/rich) can get their protection and the rest of us dies until the vaccine is spread across teh world and H1N1is eradicated or diminished. BTW, if you look at the Stats, the reason it didn't spread wide, it happened in China and other Asian countries that has an authoritarian government. Civil unrest results in a bullet to the head or heart. In "free world" it's all man/woman/child for themselves, and therefore, stats would have been higher.

I do this for a living. Migrating sites for major companies the size of FB and MS and the like. I can tell you, with a well planned execution w/database moves, loads, etc., it takes months of planning to make sure everything works well. The general plan above is accurate in terms of the basic/high-level steps. There will be outages. For a DB such as this, I'd estimate at least 1/2 a day is required but it can be several days to get all the bugs worked out post migration. DNS takes about 15-30 min to replicate to the TLD and then spread across the DNS caches out there which can take up to 24-48 hours depending on where you are located and what ISPs do. Some ISPs cache DNS for a longer than TTL so I've seen up to a week when we migrate large sites before it becomes available to end users. Mileage may vary.
