MonTemplar's Journal: Oh look, they've bodged up /. again!

As announced on the front page, they've gone and mucked around with the Slashcode again. Most noticeable change so far is that the homepage exclusions are currently kaput, so you get everything now - I had the sections cleared off to the sidebar.

But wait! What is this? Apparently, there is work on convertion the site to XHTML and CSS, albeit by a couple of volunteers, not Slashdot/OSDN, so don't hold your breath waiting... :)

In my mind, I can live without the exclusions (as I only used them on katz and "christmas cheer"). What annoys the living hell out of me is the fact that you can no longer make "user-created discussions" ie "hidden sids".

comments.pl no longer lists recent discussions (which used to be a great way to find new journals) or allows you to create a 'new discussion'.

Now I have no idea how I'm going to find new journals, etc (I recently in the last few months started cruising around and reading subject lines tha

To find new journals, log out and go to journal.pl [slashdot.org]. Once I'm there, I log in on another window/tab and open in a new tab or window from there. Crappy method, but it works.

Or just go to Old Stories [slashdot.org] and search for Journals [slashdot.org] (by clicking the radio button) and you'll be presented with a brief summary of the latest journal entries...

I had a very customized homepage where I excluded many topics in which I'm not interested in. I also included stories from the (apple|bsd|askslashdot|developers|science|yro) sections to the frontpage. Maybe this is just temporary, but I liked the way it was.

Did you btw notice that browsing for earlier dates on the frontpage is broken (it always gives you the current frontpage). Somebody should issue a bug report.

I did not see the warning of it going down, nor did I even notice it was off line. Maybe because I was to busy talkint on the phone with Trish (some one I hope to be a girl friend later on, I have been talking to her for the last 6 months, and this weekend I am going to go up to ohio to meet her in person for the frist time)

I guess I am not a geek because I did not see or notice or care about slashdot being offline. (and I have the hope of having a real breathing girlfriend)

To be honest, I'm more bothered when DeviantArt goes read-only while they do maintenance. Heh, now there's a contrast - you actually get some advance warning of when that's going to happen, and an explanation of what's being done. Definitely no dumping of code directly onto production systems! :)
