The problem with many Americans is that they tend o think in black and white. Democrats and Republicans. Right or Wrong. North and South. Europeans grow up being tought there is no absolute right or wrong. That there is no simple solution. We live with a lot of nations close to each other and in te past had a lot of wars, not just between two sides, but involving many parties. Now, we are learning to live together.
You say you got rid of a tyran and a potential dangerous country? Now, because of democracy, you will probably get an islamic country which will support the Palestinian Jihad and will repel all US influence. That is IF civil war can be avoided. You say the french have (economic) interests in the region? Well, the entire world has interests in a stable region. But the way things are now, I'm not too confident all is going well.
You say you got rid of a tyrant? Well, thank you! And thank you in the name of Zimbabwe, Korea, China etc. etc. I will bet a year's the US wont do a thing about those regimes.
