Journal Journal: Google's Magic Window

Google unveils 'magic window' that can let people chat virtually in lifelike 3D. Project Starline uses 3D imaging and real-time compression. It's unclear when or if the product will ever be available for mass use, but announcement comes more than a year into the coronavirus pandemic.

Google announced a host of new features for its various products and services, including Maps, Photos, Search, WearOS and Workspaces, among others.
It uses the 3D imaging technology and real-time compression "to capture people as they are," according to Steve Seitz, Google's director of engineering.

Journal Journal: Practicality of going 5G iPad-only, no iPhone?

Looking for people's experiences with going 5G iPad only, and especially any unexpected glitches.
Use case:
Rarely make a voice call these days, everything is video, but 5+ spam calls a day even with the filters.
Lately I carry an https://omegle-chat.com/ iPad for reading/surfing and sometimes an emergency remote desktop.
Bluetooth keyboard for when I have to type when traveling.
Any "real work" is done on desktop with a 43" 4K - trying to separate work and life (you should too) by not carrying a laptop around.
With the iPad Mini having all the features but bigger, at half the cost of a iPhone, it's hard to justify having both anymore.
Legacy phone and SMS:
Google Voice seems like a good alternative to port my number to for all those two-factor SMS auths and the rare legacy phone calls.
Google does drop products randomly, so that is a risk.
Bluetooth solved the "holding iPad up to ear" problem long ago.
Data:
AT&T and others seem to have reasonable table plans these days, so swap tablet plan for phone plan. Low data caps, but always in WiFi unless driving or camping.
International travel may be a headache?
iPhone two-factor glitch?
Sometimes the code from an iPhone is needed to get into other devices. Apple dogma assumes an iPhone is always owned, no exceptions. Any issues there?
