I love my scifi books, but I have to intersperse them with other types of fiction. I tend to lean towards the whacked out, fantasy related, bizzaro humor tales.
Read ANYTHING by author Tom Robbins. And I mean ANYTHING. If you want a starting point, I'd go back to the beginning.... "Another Roadside Attraction." One of the single greatest books I've read PERIOD. After that, I would recommend "Jitterbug Perfume" and "Skinny Legs and All."
And I can't post this without throwing a shout out to my current favorite author, Chuck Palahniuk. (Who wrote a little book you might have heard of called Fight Club. I think that they made a film out of that too....) See also: Invisible Monsters... Survivor (not not that lame-ass TV show)... Choke... and most recently, Lullabye.
Do this, and your scfi-fi collection will be wonderfully enhanced with books that will almost undoubtedly become some of your favorite stories!!!!
