The PS3 with a Blu-ray drive is the same price as the Xbox360 with an HD-DVD drive. Plus, the PS3 comes in one nice package.
I have a Xbox360, and an Xbox, so I'm not a "Sony fanboy". I do not have a PS3 and I'm not planning on buying one until the price drops. One expensive next-gen console is enough for me, thanks.
My point was not that you have to spend money to be a "hardcore console gamer". It was that the two equally priced but more expensive consoles cater to that demographic. The Wii does not.
Nintendo has targeted a different group of people since the N64/Gamecube. They still have some great games, but those games don't target the same audience. The people most likely to buy a PS3 and Xbox360 will most likely not buy a Wii.
