I love the idea because we already have all of the necessary technologies, it just comes down to cost/kg to LEO. Even SpaceX is currently an order of magnitude too expensive for the numbers to work out, but we are getting closer! In-situ manufacturing on Luna is a great idea too, if only we had a lunar base. All of the materials for photovoltaics exist on the moon. One big consideration is maintenance. In space, objects are constantly sand blasted by microscopic stellar debris. This process would likely degrade the efficiency of the panels drastically in not very much time at all. I think my favorite aspect of this idea is that we would be sowing the seeds of a dyson sphere. In that regard, it is inevitable as we evolve as a species.
