Security software costs more to renew than buy new

So I guess that makes me unique among my peers. But in fairness the scoop is not mine but one of our readers who pointed out how much more it cost to renew his security software than it was to buy new. In fact it cost less than half the price to buy it new than it does to renew the licence because of heavy discounting. He feels a bit cross that, as a loyal customer, he is the one penalised. The message? Don't assume that renewals will be cheaper, because that could be what the cynical av companies are doing when they price up their renewal fees in the first place.
