You need a better card.

I dispute anything that doesn't match my records; I've disputed as little as $6 from a local store. I call the credit card company and submit the necessary papers via fax.

I often hear people say, "Oh, it's a just a few dollars off; what's the big deal?" Depending on the business, that "few dollars" may be put on 100, 1000, 10000 different people. Would you say, "Oh, it's just $50,000 off; what's the big deal?" The credit card companies keep track of these disputes; if a company is continually getting hit with them, they will investigate.

Inside the AP's Plan To Security-Wrap Its News Content 138

suraj.sun writes with an excerpt from this story at Ars Technica that the "Associated Press, reeling from the newspaper apocalypse, has a new plan to 'wrap' and 'protect' its content though a 'digital permissions framework.' The Associated Press last week rolled out its brave new plan to 'apply protective format to news.' The AP's news registry will 'tag and track all AP content online to assure compliance with terms of use,' and it will provide a 'platform for protect, point, and pay.' That's a lot of 'p'-prefaced jargon, but it boils down to a sort of DRM for news — 'enforcement,' in AP-speak."

Of the top things to be scared of there is no mention of terrorism. But watch out for family members! "Over 16,000 Americans will be murdered this year, most often by a relative or friend."

We're working on MAS.

Public CVS is more up-to-date than our 0.6.0 release , so if you're going to check it out, get it from CVS.

It mixes multiple streams, can convert sampling rates, and doesn't need a half-second long buffer. We haven't got it to slice and dice yet, though.

The API that is in there is VERY low level. We've been working hard on a high-level "soundserver-style" API that'll allow esd and OSS apps to be ported easily. It'll be out when-it's-done, which will be soon.
